ROOTED IN TRADITION

THE GOES WAY

Roots is the foundation of everything we do. It tells the story of where our Jiu Jitsu comes from—passed directly through the Carlson Gracie lineage, shaped by real competition, and preserved with respect for tradition. This is not theory or trend-based training. It is Jiu Jitsu lived, tested, and taught the way it was meant to be.

PHILOSOPHY

Carlson Gracie, a legendary figure in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), is known for his traditional, tough, and aggressive approach to martial arts. His philosophy revolves around the practical and effective application of techniques, particularly in self-defense situations. The Carlson Gracie style emphasizes the development of physical toughness, mental resilience, and a relentless, forward-moving mindset.

TEACHING

STYLE

The teaching style associated with Carlson Gracie and his lineage adopts a no-nonsense, street-effective approach. Instructors often focus on techniques that are directly applicable in real-life self-defense scenarios. The emphasis is on simplicity, efficiency, and effectiveness, reflecting a mindset that values techniques that work under pressure.

COMPETITION FOCUS

Carlson Gracie's lineage has a storied history of producing successful competitors, but what sets it apart is the emphasis on practical applications in addition to sporting success. Competitors trained in the Carlson Gracie style are known for their tenacity, resilience, and aggressive fighting style. The focus is not solely on winning matches within the sport of BJJ but also on preparing practitioners for real-world confrontations where the priority is to defend oneself effectively.

LIFESTYLE

Master Allan has dedicated his life to the principles and methods of Carlson Gracie's Jiu Jitsu, encompassing the mind, body, spirit, and training. The samurai's teachings and techniques are not just a sport but a way of life that can be applied both on and off the mat.

Allan Góes is a 7th-degree Coral Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and one of the most respected products of the Carlson Gracie lineage. Raised during the era when Carlson Gracie’s team dominated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and helped define modern mixed martial arts, Allan represents a generation shaped by pressure, discipline, and real-world application.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Allan comes from a family rooted in art, philosophy, and martial tradition. His grandfather, Alcides Góes, a judo master, introduced him to martial arts at a young age. After his grandfather’s passing, Allan trained at the Radar Academy in Copacabana under Master Manimal, attending free classes at 4 a.m.—the only no-cost option available in the neighborhood. Those early mornings forged the discipline that would define his life.

In 1983, as a yellow belt, Allan won his first Jiu Jitsu medal in Teresópolis. Watching from the stands, Carlson Gracie immediately recognized his potential and requested that Allan be brought into the juvenile program at the Carlson Gracie Academy. At just 16 years old, Allan was taken into Carlson Gracie’s home, living and training alongside the master for nearly three years. This period became the foundation of both his technical excellence and personal character.

Under Carlson’s direct mentorship, Allan compiled an extraordinary competitive record in Jiu Jitsu. His only recorded loss came at brown belt to Fernando Gurgel. He received his black belt from Carlson Gracie at the age of 18, shortly before joining the Brazilian Paratroopers—further reinforcing the toughness and resilience for which Carlson Gracie athletes were known.

As the academy shifted toward vale tudo and early MMA, Allan became one of the sport’s true pioneers. He debuted professionally in 1995 and competed internationally in organizations including PRIDE Fighting Championships, International Fight League (IFL), the Seattle Tiger Sharks, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), facing legendary opponents such as Frank Shamrock, Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Mark Coleman. Known for his aggressive guard, submission threats, and technical composure, Allan played a key role in introducing high-level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to early MMA audiences.

Beyond competition, Allan’s impact continued through leadership and innovation. He helped form Brazilian Top Team in 2000 alongside former teammates and later became instrumental in expanding authentic Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu in the United States. His influence is also preserved in popular culture—appearing as a playable fighter in UFC Undisputed 2010, a title celebrated for honoring Pride-era legends.

In keeping with the values instilled in him by Carlson Gracie, Allan chose to delay receiving his Coral Belt so that Carlson Gracie Jr. could be promoted first and personally award Allan the rank. This decision reflected his commitment to preserving the lineage in its purest form—honoring hierarchy, respect, and the proper transmission of knowledge above personal recognition.

Today, Allan continues to teach, mentor, and preserve the principles passed directly to him by his mentor. He is also the founder and co-creator of TUVA Original, a lifestyle and fight gear brand rooted in lineage and authenticity, and remains active as a color commentator, seminar instructor, and ambassador for the art worldwide.

This is not secondhand knowledge.
This is Jiu Jitsu forged through lineage, tested in competition, and carried forward with purpose.

ON THE MAT

BEYOND THE MAT

Long before MMA became mainstream, Allan Goes was already part of its most defining era. His legacy lives on not only on the mat, but in gaming history as well.

Allan Goes appears as a playable fighter in UFC Undisputed 2010, released on the PlayStation 3. The game is widely remembered for its authentic roster of legendary competitors, especially those from the iconic Pride FC era—a time many fans consider the golden age of mixed martial arts.

Often highlighted in nostalgic MMA simulations, Goes is featured among the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, reinforcing his place among the sport’s respected veterans. As noted by The New York Times, fighters from this era are more commonly preserved in the original THQ UFC Undisputed series, rather than newer titles.

It’s a reminder that true impact doesn’t fade—it earns its place in history.
